Freedom of Information

If you are considering making a Freedom of Information request to our office, contact us for a discussion.

Under Victorian law, people have the right to access information held by public organisations. This includes the Victorian Ombudsman.

Our office complies with the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Vic).

However, some information stored by our office is not subject to the FOI Act. This means it cannot be provided to people. This is mainly due to the strict confidentiality provisions of the Ombudsman Act.

If you are considering making an FOI request to us, contact us for a discussion first.

We do not want you to pay an up-front fee for:

  • documents that are already publicly available, or
  • documents that you will not receive due to our confidentiality provisions.
